I'm a bit slow writing this as it is about last week. However, I had 3 surprises during last week and I thought I'd write about them.
I was contacted by Michael Waikiki Kelly, admin for the Bourne End past and Present Facebook group who asked if he could arrange an exhibition, for later this year,of the pebbles people have collected. The idea being that a small entry fee would be charged to raise funds for charity.
I was flattered, to say the least, to be asked, and so Michael is looking to arrange something for late November, early December. I'll post any details on this blog and on my Facebook page once Michael has anything organised.
Bourne End Junior Craft Show - judge
The second surprise for me was being approached by Sue Croall and asked if I would be a judge at this year's Bourne End junior Craft Show (7th October). Again, I was hugely flattered to be asked, but having looked at the show's website think that some of those taking part may be far more talented than I.......
My understanding has always been that if you are paid to do something, you are deemed a professional. If that is the case, then last week I became a professional artist.
To celebrate #worldwatercolormonth I have set myself the challenge of creating a watercolor painting of a different animal each day and posting it to my nickart Facebook page.
Last week, I received a request from someone to buy one of the paintings as a present for their partner. Once I had picked myself up off the floor, I agreed, and the sale was made.
I have also had a number of requests for commissions, all of which I have turned down.
I never set-out to make money from my painting, and it is still not a motivator for me. Who's to say what might happen in the future, but at the moment I still have so much to learn.....
For the time being, I will not take commissions as it causes me too much stress. However, anything that I post on my nickart Facebook page I am willing to sell.
I hope this post doesn't sound too showy, but these three occurrences made me happy so I wanted to share....
